About David Grann

David Elliot Grann is an American journalist and a staff writer for The New Yorker, known for his captivating storytelling. Born on March 10, 1967, Grann graduated from Connecticut College in 1989 with a B.A. in Government. His journalistic journey began as a copy editor at The Hill, a Washington, D.C.-based newspaper, in 1994. Grann’s talent and dedication led him to become The Hill’s executive editor in 1995, and he joined The New Yorker as a staff writer in 2003.

In 2009, Grann gained widespread recognition for his investigative piece Trial By Fire, earning both the George Polk Award and Sigma Delta Chi Award. His first non-fiction book, The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, published in 2009, is about the mysterious disappearance of British explorer Captain Percy Fawcett.

Killers of the Flower Moon: An American Crime and the Birth of the FBI, published in 2017, explores one of the most sinister crimes in American history—the Osage Indian murders. The book was a finalist for the 2017 National Book Award and topped The New York Times bestseller list.

Grann’s latest book, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder, published in April 2023, continues his tradition of crafting compelling narratives. His works have not only captivated readers but also inspired film adaptations, including The Lost City of Z (2017) and the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
