Stephen Richards Covey (October 24, 1932 – July 16, 2012) was an American educator, author, businessman, and motivational speaker. He is best known for his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which has sold over 40 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 40 languages.

Covey was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He then served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England.

After returning from his mission, Covey married Sandra Merrill. They had nine children together.

Covey began his career as a professor of business at Brigham Young University. He later founded Covey Leadership Center, a training and consulting firm that helps organizations improve their performance.

Covey was a prolific writer and speaker. He wrote several books on leadership, personal development, and family relationships. He also gave thousands of speeches and workshops around the world.

Covey was a recipient of the National Fatherhood Award and the Franklin Covey Global Leadership Award. He was also named one of the 25 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

Covey died in 2012 at the age of 79. He left behind a legacy of wisdom and insights that have helped millions of people live more fulfilling and successful lives.
